Our Guinness PRO 14 Player Of The Week – Round 2

Star performer.

The Guinness PRO14 returned this weekend for round 2 with some absolute cracking games. On Friday Glasgow laid down a marker with a 25-10 win over Munster, while Ulster meanwhile were saved by the boot of John Cooney once again in a thrilling 30-29 win over Edinburgh.

Saturday saw Scarlets defeat defending champions Leinster in an absolute belter at Parc Y Scarlets, while there were also wins for Dragons, Connacht, Ospreys and Benetton.

But which players stood out individually? Wales centre Hadleigh Parkes was incredible against Leinster, topping the Scarlets’ charts in terms of carries (16), metres made (94), defenders beaten (6) and clean breaks (5). Gareth Davies was also incredible in the same game, while Alun Wyn Jones played a blinder against the Cheetahs.

But one man once again stood out above them all and that’s Ulster scrumhalf John Cooney. The Ireland international was pivotal, scoring 20 of Ulster’s 30 points and playing a huge role in Craig Gilroy’s try also. He’s now scored 35 of Ulster’s 45 points this season. Incredible.

Well done John. Our PRO14 Player of the Week from Round 2.
