Conor O’ Shea Turns Down International Coaching Role

Harlequins coach Conor O’Shea has turned down the chance to replace Jacques Brunel as head coach of Italy.

Brunel, who has been in charge of the Azzurri for four years, is unlikely to be offered a fresh contract and Italy Rugby Federation approached former Ireland international O’Shea to take over, according to the Telegraph.

However, Quins director of rugby O’Shea insisted he has no desire to move.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “My job is here. It’s really nice to be mentioned like that, a massive honour, but my job is here and I want to make sure we continue it,” he said.

“They’ve been on and talked to me, but that’s natural. That happens in every walk of life, that people ask questions. You’re always linked. There are England jobs, Ireland jobs, club jobs. And it’s very flattering, but my job is here, full stop. I have been approached but I’m sure they’re talking to a load of people and my job is here.”

Harlequins, who beat London Irish 38-7 on Saturday, are currently fourth in the Aviva Premiership and have won their opening two Challenge Cup games against Cardiff Blues and Montpellier.

O’Shea has been at the club for five years, winning the Challenge Cup in 2011 and the Premiership the following year.
