A New Contender Has Emerged For Munster’s Director Of Rugby Role

The race is heating up for Munster’s Director of Rugby role.
Former Munser coaches Declan Kidney and Tony McGahan have been linked with the post in recent weeks, as well as Crusaders boss Todd Blackadder and former Edinburgh and Connacht boss Michael Bradley.
It has emerged this morning however according to Ruaidhri O’Connor, former Springbok captain Johan ‘Rassie’ Erasmus has been in contact with Munster officials about the role. Erasmus won 36 caps for South Africa between 1997 and 2001 and was linked with the vacant head coach job with the Springboks, before pulling out of the race, with Allister Coetzee set to take over from Heyneke van der Merwe.
Erasmus was also the first head coach of the newly created Cheetahs in 2006, and has been the South African rugby’s general manager of high performance – a post he has held since early 2015. Erasmus announced in March that he was leaving the role because he was fed up of the politics in South African rugby, and wants to pursue a coaching career outside of his homeland.
